Interior Designer in New Farm
Character houses and riverfront living, close to the studio

New Farm's streets record several chapters of Brisbane's growth. Timber character houses with verandahs and deep gardens sit near apartment buildings rising along the river, and the open lawns of New Farm Park give the peninsula its unhurried pace. From the neighbouring Fortitude Valley studio, New Farm's mix of heritage fabric and riverfront living suggests interiors with a strong sense of layering. A New Farm house usually arrives with original detailing and a sequence of rooms that already suggests a direction.
That inheritance shapes the decoration. An antique cabinet can bring warmth to a restrained contemporary room, and a modern sofa can sit comfortably against aged timber. Such combinations depend on proportion and on deciding which few pieces will lead, because a room filled with objects of equal importance soon becomes tiring to live in. A complete furniture plan should be established before any individual piece is chosen, since the relationships it sets up are what give an interior its coherence, whether the house is a restored worker's cottage or a substantial family residence.
The garden matters as much as the rooms. Verandahs and planted courtyards are part of daily life here, and furniture placement can draw a room towards them. For riverfront homes the outlook becomes central, and a generous living room may hold two seating arrangements, one oriented to the water and another closer and more conversational. Being a few minutes from the studio also simplifies the practical side of a project, from site meetings to installing pieces that have been held in our warehouse until the house is ready.
Drama in New Farm is an in-progress residential commission, shown here through CGI concept imagery. The images communicate the design intent while the home is under construction; they are not photographs of a completed interior.
