Interior Designer in Paddington
Queenslanders, hillside sites and carefully judged additions
Paddington's hills and compact residential blocks give many homes memorable outlooks, close neighbours and complex level changes. Traditional Queenslanders bring lightness and character, yet their original room sequence may not suit contemporary family life. The design task is to improve circulation and comfort without losing the scale and detail that make the house distinctive.
A rear or lower-level addition should feel related to the original building without copying it. Repeated materials and a controlled palette can provide continuity, while changes in ceiling height or texture mark the shift from intimate older rooms to more open family spaces. Storage and services are best resolved through joinery rather than allowed to crowd the original plan.
Privacy deserves attention from the beginning on a close urban site. Window furnishings, planting and the orientation of seating can protect a room without closing it to light. Furniture is then selected for the actual proportions of the home, with bespoke pieces introduced where standard sizes would compromise movement or function.
