Children's Room Interior Design
Character now, adaptability for what comes next
A child's room should feel particular to the person using it without depending on a theme that will quickly become restrictive. I begin with sleep, reading, play, study and the objects that matter to the child, then give each activity a clear place. Colour and pattern can carry personality while the more permanent elements remain capable of change.
Storage belongs at the height and location where it can actually be used. Open shelves may suit books and current interests; closed joinery can hold clothing, toys and the less orderly parts of daily life. A desk, bed and wardrobe are tested against door swings and circulation so the room remains comfortable as the furniture and child become larger.
Lighting needs to support waking, reading, study and night-time movement independently. Window treatments consider sleep and privacy, and materials are selected for touch, durability and repair rather than treated as temporary because the room belongs to a child.
For siblings, shared rooms require an additional balance of individuality and equal access. For a complete family home, children's rooms are planned with bathrooms, play areas and storage beyond the bedroom. Contact Daniel Kostiuc Interior Design to discuss the brief.
