Powder Room Interior Design
A compact room with an exacting role
A powder room is small, frequently seen by guests and often fitted into a difficult part of the plan. Its success begins with the door, the approach and the view when it is left open. Privacy, basin clearance and comfortable movement matter more than the temptation to fill a compact room with visual effects.
Because shower steam is absent, the room can sometimes support materials or objects that would be less suitable in a full bathroom. That freedom still needs discipline. Stone, timber, plaster, metal and wallpaper should be judged for cleaning, wear and the strong light often concentrated around a mirror.
Light should be comfortable on the face and allow safe movement without flattening every surface. A wall light or reflected source can work with discreet ambient light, while ventilation, tap position, hand towels and storage are resolved as part of the composition rather than added at the end.
A powder room may carry a more concentrated character than the rooms around it, but it should still belong to the home. Contact Daniel Kostiuc Interior Design to discuss bathroom and powder-room design within a complete project.
