Apartment and Penthouse Interior Design
Turning a new residence into a private home
Brisbane's luxury apartments and penthouses often arrive with long views and finishes chosen to suit a broad market. That specification is a sound starting point, yet the residence can still feel anonymous at handover. As an interior designer, I give apartments in precincts such as Newstead and Kangaroo Point the personality of a private home, through complete furnishing and a few well-chosen bespoke interventions. A new piece of joinery can give a room the architectural focus it lacks, and the right upholstery brings warmth to spaces dominated by glass.
Apartments raise their own design questions. A room wrapped in glass has little wall for art or cabinetry, so furniture often works best placed within the room, while layered sheers manage privacy and glare. Hard surfaces need softening with rugs and upholstery, for comfort and for sound. For many owners, a move from a larger house also means deciding how to live with a collection, and a single artwork can determine the arrangement of an entire room. Furniture designed to exact dimensions answers the practical demands of a smaller footprint.
Delivery matters as much as design. Alterations may need body corporate approval under the building's by-laws, and lift dimensions and loading dock access are confirmed before anything is ordered. For owners who use the apartment as a city base, the studio can run the project through a family office or assistant and complete the installation while they are away, so the residence is ready on arrival. Deliveries are held in our warehouse until installation, then placed by white-glove handlers in one planned sequence.
