Art Deco and Hollywood Moderne Interiors
Glamour, drawn with a contemporary hand
Art Deco and its Hollywood offshoot, often called Hollywood Moderne, shaped some of the twentieth century's most theatrical rooms. Bold geometry, curves, lacquer, polished stone and metal gave entrance halls, staircases and furniture an architectural presence. A contemporary interpretation can draw on that confidence without recreating a period set.
Restraint is what keeps the language current. A stepped profile, a curved cabinet or a carefully placed brass detail can establish the reference without every surface repeating it. Proportion carries more of the effect than ornament, and bespoke furniture and lighting allow each gesture to be drawn at the right scale for the room.
Brisbane's strong light requires particular judgement. Reflective surfaces are balanced with matte plaster, timber and deeper upholstery, and metallic finishes are assessed according to the light each room receives. The result can feel glamorous and composed while remaining comfortable for ordinary daily life.
