Bespoke Furniture and Joinery
Pieces designed for one room, and made to last for decades
A piece designed for one particular room solves problems that standard furniture cannot, whether a dining table drawn to the proportions of its room or a cabinet made for a single wall. It also gives an interior something that belongs to that home alone. The number and type of bespoke pieces vary substantially from one commission to another. Each is introduced only when it resolves a particular spatial, practical or expressive need, and the studio works closely with the workshop responsible for making it. My own Kos Collection is manufactured by the Italian atelier Orsi and offered through 1stDibs.
The quality of bespoke furniture depends on decisions that cannot be separated from making: proportion, material, jointing, finish and the way the piece will be handled in daily life. Experienced workshops contribute practical judgement throughout that process, refining details so the finished object is both precise and durable.
Construction also decides whether a piece can be cared for over decades. Before commissioning, I ask a workshop where judgement is expected in the making, and whether a finish can later be renewed or a component replaced. Bespoke joinery follows the same thinking, from library shelving to the study cabinetry and sculptural brass hardware in Artful Geometry. The studio manages each commission from first drawings to delivery, including freight and installation, so the piece arrives ready for the room it was designed for.
